PROCESS summary

These are the processes with explanations and images, showing the work we are undergoing in creating the game trailer.

Storyboard AND SCRIPT of the Trailer Video

  • We want to create a short story-based game trailer where it revolves around a future world where humanity has the same face because it is considered the epitome of human perfection. The face of perfection is done through involuntary surgery by a global government where individuals must receive when they reach the age of 18. In this story, the player, as a 17-year-old girl from the year 2020, found herself travelling to this horrible plan. As she later found herself is about to have her coming of age in a week. She decided to play against the propaganda of  “perfection”. By doing that, the protagonist must escape a facility that she is being held in by the government. The goal of this game is to escape the facility, and if she fails to do so, the game over. This is only the first chapter introducing the game. The player must avoid guards, unlock doors and discover the hidden history behind this twisted society, later crossing a forest to unlock the following chapters…

  • We had finished the scriptwriting of the trailer video. For the next step, we will follow the scriptwriting, draw out the 2D animation as well as building the mechanism and scenes in unity. In the final video, it will be a combination of the 2D animation drawing and the video clip of the 3D game.

  • The storyboard is where we discussed the visualization of the script. We will use the 3D assets in Unity, to record and make our trailer. And we will also use 2D animation to express the narrative part. There are also game mechanics implemented, such as enabling passcodes, opening doors and others to have an idea of what kind of stuff you can do in this game. The storyboard is complete and will proceed to turn into the trailer. 

  • iAcademy students will start working on the 2D animation, and Ocad students will working on the 3D game building.

3D Modelling of the Characters

  • These are basic 3D models of the characters. The male and the female with blue outfits are the scientists and the other two young girls are Effi's roommates. Since Effi is in the first-person view, it will not be necessary to model her. The next step for the characters is adding the animation to them.

3D Scenes in Unity

For this project, since we have time limitations, it is hard to build every assets by ourselves and build the game. Thus, we got the assets from the online store and used the assets to build our own scenes. 

Forest

  • In the process of building the forest, we firstly used different assets to form the overall landscape, after that, we used the lake fog to be the "walls" of the maze. This scene will be used as the second plot in which allows the player experience after they escaped from the lab. We will then explore the strategy of using the first manipulating perspective to control the track of the player. The next step will be adding a mechanic system into the scene,

  • This is the demo scene from the asset package. We used this as the foundation, making changes and arranging it.

  • Make the dorm with more bedrooms. Create a more crowded look.

  • Change into the operating room

  • This is the place where the most story happens. The Archive, control room, crowded dorm, and operating room are to create the atmosphere of the story as well as contribute to the story. The scene will be used in the trailer video to show how the game looks like. The next step for this scene is to add a mechanic system and set up the first-person controller in unity.
